Import time from Toggl Track, Clockify and Harvest

Bring your earlier time into MinuAeg with a CSV file. You see a preview first, and nothing is saved until you confirm.

Who can import, and where

A workspace administrator can import time. Import is available on every plan.

In the app, open Settings and choose the “Import time” card. While the Tracker's entry list is empty, it links to the import too.

1. Export your time from the old tool

Export your time entries as a CSV file. Each tool's own guide:

• Toggl Track: how to export your data

2. Upload the file

• A CSV file (.csv or .txt) in UTF-8 text, up to 5 MB and 50,000 data rows. The header row does not count.
• MinuAeg detects from the header row which tool the file came from. If it cannot tell, pick the source yourself; any required columns that are missing are listed.
• A workspace can upload up to 5 files an hour, with up to 3 imports in progress at a time.

3. Review the preview

The preview saves nothing. The import does exactly what the latest preview showed.

• The date order, 12- or 24-hour clock and duration format (1:30 or 1.5) are shown with a sample from your file, and you can change them. When dates can be read either day-first or month-first, you choose the order.
• The file has no time zone. Choose the time zone its times are in; the default is your workspace's. A start time that falls in a daylight-saving gap is moved forward, with a notice.
• If the file has no start times, entries start at 09:00.
• Choose where the task name comes from: the description, the task, the task and description, or the project. Notes from the source are not stored separately.
• Clients, projects, tasks and tags are matched by name, ignoring case and spaces at either end. Missing ones are created by the import; existing ones are never renamed. A task is billable if any of its rows is billable.
• Rates and amounts in the file are not imported. Each entry's rate comes from your workspace's own rate rules.

4. Choose who did the work

If the file holds several people's time, choose for each person a workspace member, “Me” or “Skip these rows”. Members with the same email address are already chosen. The import starts only when every person has a choice. Importing gives nobody access to the workspace.

5. Errors and plan limits

• These rows are errors and are not imported: a date, time or duration that cannot be read, a timer still running, an entry longer than 24 hours, an entry starting in the future, and an entry starting before 1 January 2000. Every error is shown with its row number.
• Rows with zero duration are skipped, with a notice.
• Rows with errors are skipped once you have confirmed it. The preview shows the first 100 problems; you can download the complete error list as a CSV file.
• Imported time entries do not count against any plan limit. New projects and tasks follow the plan limits as anywhere else in the app: rows that would go over a limit are skipped, and the preview shows them. Rows for existing tasks always import.

6. Import

• Up to 500 rows import right away. A larger file imports in the background, with its progress on screen.
• The import does not touch your running timer. Overlapping entries import as they are in the file, and the preview warns about them.
• If an import is interrupted, you can run it again. Rows already imported are not repeated.

Importing the same time again

Importing the same file a second time creates no new entries. If a new export overlaps a period you already imported, only the rows not yet imported are created. Two identical rows in one file are both imported.

Undoing an import

The import page lists your “Earlier imports”. “Undo import” deletes that import's time entries, and the clients, projects, tasks and tags it created that nothing else uses. The summary tells you what was kept.

An import cannot be undone while any of its entries is on an invoice, including a draft invoice. After an undo you can import the same file again.

Your file and data

The uploaded file is read only on our server and is never published at any address. It is deleted when the import finishes or is undone, 24 hours after upload if you do not finish, and with the workspace or account. The file is not sent to any third party. The names and email addresses of the people in the file are cleared from the import history after 30 days.
